Scott grew up playing youth hockey in Grand Forks, ND and was a varsity letterman at Grand Forks Central. He ended his high school career representing the state of North Dakota by playing on the first Team North Dakota. He played college hockey and was a letterman at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

His coaching experience started with youth hockey in Grand Forks. From there he coached 9 years high school as an assistant for Williston High School and then Red River High School. He joined the Dakota Starz program which represented the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association at the USA Hockey National Championships. During his tenure, the Starz program brought home 3 National Championships, a 2nd and a 3rd place finish.

Scott has his Level 5 USA Hockey coaching certification and has worked 5 USA Hockey National Camps in both Rochester, NY and Kent, OH. For more than 20 years he has worked for both NDAHA state and Northern Plains District development camps. Presently he is the Growth Coordinator, Discipline Director and D & I Advisor for NDAHA.

In his 29 years of teaching science, he has spent the last 28 at Red River High School in Grand Forks, ND. At the college level Scott teaches for both Lake Region State College and Northland Community and Technical College. He is married to his wife of 30 years and is a father of three children and a grandfather of one.
